Sherlock Holmes by sketch7778 Sherlock Holmes by sketch7778
This is BBC's Sherlock Holmes. Gift for :iconm0hane:~M0hane from :iconzeamay:=Zeamay's Secret Santa. Hope she likes it! Onto the next secret santa!
P.S. I found the ref for this one on Google. After looking through so many pages, I forgot to bookmark which one it was but it had Watson in it too. So unfortunately no link for the ref. If I can find a way to show the process then I will upload that soon as well. PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME WHAT'S UP WITH THE BACKGROUND :XD: I can't explain it lol.

I think you've caught a good likeness of him here :). Nice work with the shading and I like the background.

I've been forgetting to comment (actually working on my own stuff) -- it's really refreshing to come out of my usual area of anime fanart, and see that people draw actual noses and real chins instead of bread slicers. :D

I see what you were saying about the lips being "out there" -- I usually don't draw men's lips at all, just the line between them and some subtle indications besides that. But then again, I rarely do closeups like this. I also know nothing about painting, digital or otherwise, besides a bit of experimenting with acrylics (which are super fun by the way). It's probably a matter of experimenting with shading and/or blending.

You know how it works, though -- one day you'll hit on exactly the right combination/method, and then all the experimenting will be worth it. I just now corrected a major anatomical mistake that I'd been making all along. It never ends, right? ;)

Anyway, keep up the good work! :)

Lol! I am going to start working on more stuff like this probably and less of a wannabe anime style. I find that I enjoy doing real people than anything else. Even though it kind of adds a little pressure to actually make them look like themselves.

That is a good idea! It would save me some time and it would probably look better if I blend it more into the skin without the lines there with the exception of one.

Lol, I love acrylics but I think I have more experience with gouache and oil paints more than anything. I mostly use acrylics for painting sculptures (which I haven't done in a while).

Right lol, I have a lot of them that I've corrected. If you look at my old stuff (in scraps) compared to my new stuff you'd see a major difference :XD:.

Thank you!
