Zoro from One Piece. Not really happy with this. It was frustrating to a certain extent but I'm glad I got it done. I should really really reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally do some of these in my own style .

I don't own him! Ref was used but I don't have the link to it.
I think transferring the characters over into one's own style is when it gets really fun. Sure, reference an authentic pic of the original character (or several such pics), and study them in order to figure out what makes the character "look like" himself or herself, but then ask: what would this person look like in "my world"?
You already know how to set up figures the old-fashioned way after all, from the bones up.
I plan to draw Zoro too, when I get to that entry. His three swords seem intimidating, but the green hair will be worth it. Green hair, as everybody knows, is awesome.
True, just a matter now of me not being lazy and getting down to it. If I do them in my own style it'll probably be digital. I'm thinking about doing more in color so my gallery and all of my submissions won't just be sketchbook stuff or black and white/pencil stuff.
I'm still struggling with some of that though. I try
Good luck with Zoro!!! I saved the best part for last! I tackled the intimidating stuff first then messed up the easiest part of him... his face and hair
Oh, I'm not sure the face and hair are the easiest part -- at least, I think I sometimes don't spend enough time on the hair. Trying to make it "look like" the original character's hair, while still doing away with the standard-issue anime exaggerations, know what I mean?
As for the faces, one bit of advice I might be able to give you is that you will find you have to make decisions when you port them into your style. Particularly if it's one of those CLAMP characters with a sharp pointy chin. You will certainly have to make decisions about the nose too. The eyes, less so, except insofar as they allow your version of the character to wear a facial expression typical of the character. Trust me though, it's so much fun you'll kick yourself for not trying it sooner!
