Okay, I'm sorry guys, I keep changing how my characters look. This is Beth's newest look. I'll probably post a character progression thing sometime soon so you can see her past looks. But I actually like this one and think I can draw her like this on a regular basis. Not necessarily with that shirt but face and hair definitely. That poor shirt went through so many colors before I settled on how it looks now .
Hello! I'll start off with the vision category. It's pretty clear to me that this is a portrait. This is a good character design because it is simple enough so that you can draw her several times without having to obsess over small details for things like outfits.
This is indeed original because this character is yours. As far as I know, it's not a fan character.
As far as technique goes, you could always improve on your anatomy and depth, but it depends on whether you're leaning towards a certain style or not. The darker values around the nose and collar should mean that there should be other dark values around the body, gradually fading like with what you did with the neck. Since you included shadows on the face, you should add shadows around the eyes to add depth, or make the eye lids more noticeable. Think of the eyes as orbs in sockets.
Pretty much, I think you'll have no problem with the character design, but just continue working on values so that you'll look confident where your light sources are and confident in your style.
I also really like the hair and the shirt : ) I agree with the critique that better use of values would work in favour of you dramatically. I might just throw in my 2c and also say that the background is a bit distracting too as theres a lot of motion in it and it detracts a bit from your lovely character.
Otherwise well done : D! Hopefully those college assignments have died down a bit?
Thank you! Thanks for the comment on the bg, I was just doing a rushed one and didn't really consider how it would take away from the overall picture. I might update it with a different background soon.
I'm done posting a ton of sketches and stuff, now it'll be more digital or more serious sketches that I actually plan on coloring. Most of those will be moved to scraps soon.Sorry for the inbox spam
